Inland Branch: Technical Meeting - Concrete – getting it right

Gaborone, Botswana

The Inland Branch held its first seminar outside the South African borders recently - in Gaborone, Botswana. The seminar was tailored to expand the footprint and horizon of the Concrete Society, and also address issues that could be facing concrete users in that country.

The presentations were delivered by Roelof Jacobs (Lafarge), Johan Van Wyk (SARMA) and George Evans (PPC). The session was well attended, with a turnout of approximately 35 guests both from Botswana and South Africa in different fields of work.

Delegates were very interactive, engaging and thought-provoking, shared their thoughts and ideas around concrete and wished there had been more time. Thoughts on what they would like to see happening in the local industry were shared, as well as topics they would like to discuss in the future when the CSSA returns to Botswana. The delegates were also determined to spread the word to other concrete users in the country.

One of the comments from a delegate was “Wish there were more engineers and contractors to hear all of this”. The afternoon was wrapped up with a lucky draw and a networking session.

The Inland Branch would like to thank PPC for sponsoring the event.
