Inland Branch: Concrete Testing Unpacked

More than 40 delegates from the Bloemfontein area and the Kimberley area attended two recent seminars organised by the Inland Branch of the Society. Entitled ‘Concrete Testing Unpacked’, they featured presentations by industry experts on fresh concrete testing, hardened concrete testing and practical testing/standards.

Presenters were Johan van Wyk (Inland Branch Chairman and Director of SARMA), Jannes Bester, (Inland Branch Committee member and Lecturer at UJ) and Jaco du Plessis, (from Go Consult). Great interest was shown by delegates in the content of the seminar as was demonstrated by the lengthy question and answer time at the end of the proceedings.

The presentations were preceded by a talk from Johan van Wyk who described to members the activities of the Concrete Society, and the benefits that accrue to those who join as Country members. Bloemfontein and Kimberley residents would qualify for Country membership, as they are based more than 200km away from Johannesburg.

In thanking those that attended, Johan van Wyk in his capacity as the Inland Branch Chairman, stated that future events of this nature would be considered for the region on a more regular basis and assured the audiences that the quality of content and speaker would be maintained.

In closing, he also thanked the Main sponsors of the events – SIKA (Bloemfontein) and Chryso (Kimberley), as well as other sponsors who had provided support for the seminars, namely Chryso and Letabalab – Bloemfontein event.
