2012 Egg Protection Device Competition
Students from our three Durban Universities once again competed for the honors of having the Best Designed Egg protection Device, the University students were from UKZN (University of KwaZulu Natal), DUT (Durban University of Technology) and MUT (Mangosuthu University of Technology).
This year the build and design standard of Egg protection devises was very high, last year the winning EPD managed to withstand a respectable 33 blows from the dropped mass piece. This years winning team managed an incredible 50 blows from the dropped mass piece before the Egg was damaged. Congratulations must go to the Students at MUT who achieved these winning 50 blows (P Khanyile, MS Ngcobo and MP Ntombela), as well as 2nd place with 46 blows (K Lesale, KN Morudu and SLT Msani).
3rd position was strongly contested with the UKZN students achieving 30 blows with their EPD devise but MUT students just managed to snatch 3rd position with 32 blows, a really good effort from all the University students that participated in this year’s competition.
As always the students and spectators showed great support to the contestants with lots of cheering and shouting as the EPD’s were being tested to destruction, a fun and entertaining evening was had by everyone who participated in the event.
This year’s Egg Protection Device (EPD) Competition was once again kindly sponsored by NPC Cimpor.
The prizes were awarded to the winning students by Kevin Quayle, General Manager of NPC -Concrete and Aggregates.
