Seminar - Readying the Concrete Industry for Regional Strategic Infrastructure Projects (SIP’s)
Venue: Royal Durban Country Club
Attendees – 80+
Work has already started on a massive logistics corridor stretching between Durban and the central provinces of the Free State and Gauteng. Most of the projects that form part of the second Strategic Infrastructure Project (SIP 2), also known as the Durban-Free State-Johannesburg Logistics and Industrial Corridor, are still in the concept or pre-feasibility stage, but construction has already started on several projects.
The Concrete Society’s KwaZulu-Natal Branch held its first technical seminar this year at the Royal Durban Country Club in Durban which focused on the concrete industry readying itself for this regional SIP. Krishna Naidoo representing SANRAL and Bradley Hunt, Chair of the KZN Branch of the Society co-hosted the event, introducing the various speakers over the course of the day.
Bradley Hunt began proceedings by describing the exciting events that the branch has lined up for this year and then thanked Metier Mixed Concrete, Naidu Consulting and Chryso for their valued sponsorship of the event.
A number of presentations focused on the up and coming projects lined up for the N3 upgrade planned for the next decade, and particularly on the more eminent EB Cloete Interchange upgrade, planned to start next year, which will prove to be a unique and inspiring project design.
If this is the first project of many to come, then yes, KZN Concrete Industry needs to look forward to readying itself for the Regional SIP going forward.
The presenters and their topics at the seminar were:
Nothando Khuluse, eThekwini Roads Provision Department - My Concrete Cube – Aspects Relating to Concrete Road Widening for The IRPTN Bus Route C1.
Nalini Nulliah, Naidu Consulting - My Concrete Cube - A New Innovation Relating to Safety Using Light Emitting Concrete on Bridges and Highway Structures.
